Position Overview:
The Biorepository Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the management and operations of a healthcare and medicine biorepository. The manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient collection, storage, retrieval, and distribution of biological samples utilized for medical research purposes. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to comply with regulatory guidelines. The Biorepository Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support research initiatives and contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage the daily operations of the biorepository, including sample collection, processing, storage, and distribution.
2. Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sample handling, storage, labeling, and tracking, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and guidelines.
3. Oversee the maintenance and organization of the biorepository inventory, ensuring accuracy and accessibility of sample data.
4. Collaborate with research teams to understand sample needs, provide guidance on proper sample collection and storage procedures, and ensure timely delivery of requested samples.
5. Develop and maintain documentation related to sample acquisition, consent, storage, and tracking, ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements.
6. Supervise and train staff members involved in biorepository operations, ensuring adherence to established protocols and quality standards.
7. Monitor and implement quality control procedures to maintain sample integrity, including monitoring storage conditions, equipment performance, and potential sample degradation.
8. Collaborate with IT teams to ensure the efficient integration of biorepository data management systems and develop strategies for data retrieval and reporting.
9. Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements related to biorepository operations.
10. Participate in relevant meetings, conferences, and workshops to enhance professional knowledge and contribute to the development of biorepository techniques and practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or related field. A master's degree is preferred.
2. Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in managing biorepository operations within a healthcare or biomedical research setting.
3. In-depth knowledge of biorepository best practices, sample management, and storage methodologies.
4. Strong understanding of regulatory guidelines pertaining to biorepository operations, including ethical considerations for human subject research.
5. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
6. Proficient in developing and implementing SOPs and quality control measures within a regulated environment.
7. Demonstrated leadership abilities, including experience in managing and motivating a team.
8. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to maintain meticulous records and ensure data integrity.
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
10. Proficient in using biorepository management software and database systems.
11. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and other relevant regulatory frameworks is highly desirable.
